I just read in my bill statement that there will be a convenience charge to pay by phone. Why?

Starting January 1, 2023, a $10 convenience charge will be applied if a payment is made over the phone with a representative. To help you avoid the charge, we offer a variety of simple payment options, including Easy Pay, pay by phone using our automated system, and making an online payment through the Sparklight Business Customer Portal.
