Tips for Getting the Fastest Internet

4 Ways to Improve Your Internet Speed

Are you unhappy with your current business internet speed? If so, then it's time to explore ways to achieve a better internet connection. After all, you rely on a fast business internet connection daily to smoothly run various aspects of your company! So, what is good internet speed, anyway? This is a subjective question, since all business have different needs. For most businesses, a connection of 25 Mbps is about the minimum speed you will need for basic functions.

Before you begin, it's a good idea to determine your current speed; you can check internet speed quickly and easily online. From there, you can check the effectiveness of the following tips as you work through them and eventually achieve an overall better business internet connection.

Contact Your Internet Service Provider

If your connection speed is lackluster, take a moment to review your current internet service contract. What type of connection are you currently paying for? Check to make sure that your speed test matches your current service package. If not, then you need to call your provider and let them know; there are a number of reasons this can happen, and your service provider can help you troubleshoot the problem. If your speed test does match your current service, but you're not happy with the speed, you might consider calling your internet service provider to ask about faster internet service and better internet connection options.

One increasingly popular option for businesses these days is dedicated fiber internet access (DIA), which provides your business with a dedicated connection between your LAN (local area network) and the public internet.

Consider an Equipment Upgrade

Sometimes, your internet speed may be lacking due to outdated or malfunctioning hardware. This could refer to your modem or even a wireless router. You might consider swapping out your existing router and/or modem with a newer version, especially if it's more than five years old. If you're renting a modem or router from your internet service provider, they may even be willing to replace yours.

Plug Devices Directly into Port

Wireless internet connections simply aren't as fast as hard-wired ones, so if possible, try plugging your devices directly into your modem or router for faster internet. This can be done using an Ethernet cable. While it may not be a practical option for all devices, your business computer or laptop should easily connect directly to the port.

Set Up a Password-Protected Network

Finally, if you haven't done so already, set up your business Wi-Fi on a password-protected network that will require a key to sign in. Not only will this help to protect sensitive business data, but it will also prevent unauthorized users from connecting to your internet and draining your connection speed in the process. Not sure how to set up a password-protected network? Contact your internet service provider, and they can walk you through it in a matter of minutes.

By following these simple tips, you can go from a mediocre connection to a super-fast internet at your place of business. And with super high-speed internet, you can more seamlessly run your business and serve your clients!
